Founder + Principal

Sara Cain is the founder and principal of Cain Fine Art. With a career spanning museum, gallery, and auction house settings, Sara brings a holistic perspective to the art market. Her experience includes roles at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Joan B. Mirviss Ltd. in New York, and Sotheby’s, New York. Sara founded Cain Fine Art in 2016, and she sources, manages, and appraises art for both corporate and private collections. She is a qualified USPAP appraiser and currently performs appraisals for asset management firms, galleries, and other art consulting firms.

Sara holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts in painting from Southern Methodist University and Hunter College, New York, respectively. She earned her appraisal credentials through the Appraisers Association of America (AAA) and New York University in 2013. As an Accredited Member of the AAA, Sara is a qualified appraiser tested in 3 areas of market specialization, and she is widely known as an analyst of Post-War and Contemporary art. Her specialties also include 19th and 20th Century American and Western Amercian art. Sara has performed appraisals for both insurance and IRS/tax purposes for multi-million-dollar collections of art. In 2024, Sara appraised over 400 public works of art in the Texas State University System’s Public Art Collection spanning 11 university campuses.

Sara Cain is a member of the Appraisers Association of America (AAA), the premier national association of personal property appraisers based in New York City. The AAA ensures that all accredited members adhere to ethics, methodology, and report writing standards and that members participate in appraisal continuing education.
